Here the grape variety comes to the full, expressing its character in accordance with the nature of the vintage. These are easy-drinking, fruity wines, to be drunk young.
These wines are produced by selecting grapes from a particular individual vineyard or with particular characteristics :
For the Vitatge Vielh (old vines), grapes are chosen from a vineyard of over fifty years old, with some Petit Manseng grapes from younger vineyards
For the LA MAGENDIA wine (meaning “the best” in Occitan). This wine is produced from a succession of selective pickings of shrivelled, overripe grapes from those vineyards which are best exposed to the sun.
We call these wines exceptional because we are not sure to be able to produce them in every vintage. In very hot years, the high level of grape sugars makes dry wines difficult to produce without them having very high alcohol levels; however, the concentrated shriveled grapes needed for late-harvest wines can only be obtained with long autumns through to November and December and warm, dry winds from the south.
